LG, RIM, Samsung & Sharp to make mobile phone software widgets.

LG, RIM, Samsung Electronics and Sharp, will make mobile phones that support a specification for software widgets. These Phones widgets will use web-based applications to provide user access to information services like weather, sports scores, traffic reports or translations - coming on the market in the first quarter of 2010, state industrial associations Joint Innovation Lab (JIL). Telephone companies Vodafone, China Mobile, Softbank and Verizon Wireless are all members of the Joint Innovation Lab.



Vodafone's Samsung 360 H1 and 360 M1 becomes the first phones in Europe with widgets built on JIL's specifications, said the British telecommunications company in September. H1 come to market in the United Kingdom 30th October, said a spokesman for Vodafone.

Vodafone, like many other telecommunications companies and manufacturers of mobile phones created a contest to entice developers. Winners in eight countries each receive 186,000 kronor (25,000 euros).

SDK is still in beta, and Downloadable of registered users from JIL's website for developers.

Developers' widgets, according to a press release be distributed via telecommunications companies online applications stores.
